संक्षिप्त विवरण

The new State of Madhya Pra­desh came into existence on 1st November 1956. It was carved out of the parts of old Madhya Pradesh (Central Provinces & Berar) the erstwhile States of Gwalior, Indore, Bhopal, Rewa and Madhya Bharat State. The series of non-current records maintained by these States came into the possession of the Government of Madhya Pradesh. The Directorate of State Archives of Madhya Pradesh set up in 1974 became it’s natural custodian with the exception of the Rewa State Records, which are in the custody of the General Administration Department.. This Directorate was merged with the Directorate of Archaeology and Museums in 1994.

The series of post 1920 to 1956 Records of Central Provinces are in the custody of the General Administration Department, Secretariat, Government of Madhya Pradesh, Bhopal.
The pre 1914 records of Bhopal State are kept in the Regional Office of National Archives of India, Bhopal.
