*(487) Painted Rockdwelling, Gaura Mountain (Hill)

The village Beechhee is situated in Chitrangi tehsil of Sidhi district. There is a regular bus service for here from Rewa.

jabalpur-img35 This rock dwelling is situated at a distance of three kms from Beechhee. In comparision to the rock dwelling of Dhaulagiri, there are more paintings here. The subject matter of these paintings consists of paintings of different animals in quadrilateral lines. The filling of the body has been done by zig-zag lines. The paintings are of red ochre. The prehistoric paintings of this dwelling is a live example of the prehistoric man’s perception of art and artistic tase/likings. The human creativity in the early phase of the civilization is known through these paintings. The prehistoric men have painted about the animals in their vicinity and about their struggle in daily life. The paintings of the prehistoric men are our cultural heritage. Important from the point of view of archaeology. There dwelling are protected by the State Government.

 

(488) Ancient Garhi (Fortress and Temples), Bardi

jabalpur-img36 Bardi is situated on the confluence of the Sone and the Gopad at a distance of 60kms from Sidhi on the other side of Khaurpur. It is situated on a hill of the plateau. There is an old fortress here, which was the dwelling of the local medieval rulers. In the 18th century it was under the rule of Chandela ruler Mayurshah Garhwa whose territory spread from Garahwa to Bardi.

Ram Singh constructed a huge/magnificent fortress on the bank of the Gopad river. There was a tunnel from the fortress to the river. It was the highest watermark for the Bardi kingdom. At present the main gate of the fortress is intact. The old temples of Bardi are said to have been places of human sacrifice during the Chandela days. Cunningham has mentioned there in his report.

 

 

(489) Ancient Temple, Dorajkhurd

jabalpur-img37 The village Dorajkhurd of Chitrangi Tehsil is situated in the middle of Selwar on a hill at a distance of 35kms from the tehsil headquarter Chitrangi.

This temple represents the early phase of the temple construction style of the Kalachuri era. This temple is important from the point of view of the evolution of Kalchuri temple architecture. At present this temple is under protection of the State government.

 

 

(490) Painted Rock Caves/Rock Dwellings, Ranimachi

jabalpur-img38 Ranimachi lies at a distance of 17 kms from Chitrangi. The paintings of Ranimachi rock caves belong to the mesolithie age of microstone implements culture. These paintings are representative of the early history of Indian art. Ranimachi rockcaves are situated in the southern slope of the Kaimore mountain range. There is a deep trench infront of the rockcaves and the height of the rock caves is very low. The paintings of animals and men are inscribed on the roof of the rock caves. The paintings are made of red ochre. The figners of the animals have been painted by quadrilateral lines and then have been superimposed with zig-zag lines. Due to the destruction of the surface of the rock, most of the paintings have vanished.

 

 

(491) Painted Rock Dwelling, Dhaulagiri (Beechhee)

This rock dwelling is a live example of prehistoric man’s perception of art and artistic taste. These paintings underline human creativity in the early phase of civilization. The prehistoric men have painted the animals in their vicinity and have also defected their struggles in day-to-day existence. The prehistoric paintings of these rock dwellings are of mesolithic micro stone implement culture. All the paintings are not of the same period. These have been painted in different periods of time. This is a protected monument of the State govt.
