संक्षिप्त विवरण

The Directorate of Archaeology Archives & Museums has its own section for publishing the Monographs, Guide books, Excavation reports, folios, vintage books, Encyclopedia of the Known and Unknown Historical monuments of Madhya Pradesh and research Journal Puratan to highlight the cultural heritage of Madhya Pradesh.

In 1975 one booklet on Museums and Monuments was published by the Directorate and after that in 1981 two books on the Shaiva and Shakta sculptures of the Central Museum Indore were published. Later the Department started the bilingual Journal Puratan which includes the research papers based on Indology and Museology. The Archaeological Excavation reports on Tumain Excavation (1985), Dangwada Excavation (1989) and Nandaur Excavation (2004) have been published. Guide books on the museums like Gujari Mahal Gwalior, Rani Durgawati Museum Jabalpur, Maharaja Chhatrasal Museum Dhubela, Central Museum Indore, Tulsi Museum Ramvan (Satna), Local Museum Kasarawad Museum (Khargone) and Devi Ahilya Museum Maheshwar (Khargone) have been published in Hindi.

The Department has published 14 volumes of the Journal Puratan which includes special volume on Shaivism, Indian Art, Rock Art of India, Art of Chhatisgarh and Narmada Valley Culture, apart from the regular volumes. Seminar proceedings have also been published like Malwa through the Ages, Art of the Kalchuries, Approaches to the Art and Archaeology of Madhya Pradesh, Khajuraho in perspectives etc.

Folios on the historic monuments have been published. These include Virasat Bhopal, Virasat Gwalior, Bagh paintings, Bundeli Kalam, Rag Ragini paintings, Sketches on Orchha, Khajuraho and Monuments of Madhya Pradeshs. Some important Books on the historical monuments like Art of India Series - Khajuraho, Gwalior Fort, Orchha, Ujjain, Indore, An Ode to the Bundellas, Bhopal Itihas Sanskrit and Puratava, Orchha ke Bhittichitra, Painted Rock shelters of India, Master pieces of Madhya Pradesh, Bhopal 50 years as Capital of Madhya Pradesh, Relics of 1857, Documents of Jabalpur and Mandla related to the First War of Independence of 1857, Bundeli Abhilekh and Urdu Farsi ke Abhilekh etc. have been published. Books on the Archaeological Explorations (village to village survey) of the districts of Bhopal, Vidisha, Raisen, Rajgarh, Mandsaur and Neemuch have been published for the first time.

Important encyclopedia on the Known and Unknown Historical Monuments of Madhya Pradesh in Vol. I, II, III and IV has been completed and first volume of this work was brought out with related illustrations.
